Mr. Chairman, Members of the Subcommittee: I am honored to appear before you today to discuss the effect of fuel price increases on the airlines and on airline service. Since I am

not an expert on energy, I shall not attempt to address the issue of whether projections of aviation fuel price increases are accurate. Rather, I shall limit my remarks to two points. First,

it is essential that we keep in mind that any action that increases the price of aviation fuel would likely increase the price of fuel used by the other modes of transportation… The second point is to make a rough- and- ready evaluation of the impact of fuel price increases assuming that the increase in traffic mentioned above did not materialize…
