Council Supports Advertising For Eye Care Services

The Council on Wage and Price Stability today supported proposed regulations by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to eliminate restrictions against advertising by providers of eye care (ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians). Such advertising is currently prohibited by various state and local laws as well as professional associations. The FTC regulations would preempt these laws or agreements. The Council has been concerned with rising costs of health care in general and in its judgment the proposed rule would be anti-inflationary and possibly help retard the rise in costs in this particular area…
