Hearings on rising health care costs to be held by the Council on Wage and Price Stability in Philadelphia on October 14 and 15 will feature testimony on why these costs have risen and what is being done by companies, unions, and health care providers to find innovative ways to stem these increases. Among those testifying (see. attached list) will be health maintenance organization executives, company officials, union officials, and hospital administrators.

The hearings begin at 9:00 a.m. October 14 in Room 6306, William Green Federal Building, 600 Arch Street. The hearings, chaired by Council Acting Director William Lilley III, are based on the touncil ‘s previously issued reports, “The Problem of Rising Health Care Costs,” and its September 17 draft compendium of labor and management innovations in controlling health care costs. The Philadelphia hearing is the first in a second round of hearings on the matter; later hearings will be held in Houston October 21 and Miami October 28.
