Before the Federal Trade Commission: Over the Counter Drugs

On September 16, 1976, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) gave notice of final rulemaking for a trade regulation rule regarding the advertisement of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs (41 FR 39768).

 

The proposed rule was announced first on November 1, 1975 (40 FR 52631) and related directly to a comprehensive study of OTC drugs being conducted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). In FDA’s study, OTC drugs have been placed into generic groups for review as to their safety and efficacy.
