The Council on Wage and Price Stability (Council) hereby submits its comments to the International Trade Commission (ITC or Commission) on the investigation under Section 201 of the Trade Act of 1974 (88 Stat. 1978) relating to television receivers. The television receiver investigation was requested by a petition for import relief submitted to the ITC on September 22, 1976, by a domestic industry group composed of eleven unions and five manufacturers (Petitioners).
At the conclusion of this investigation, the ITC is required to make an affirmative or negative finding on the question of whether the domestic industry has been injured by imports. If that decision is in the affirmative, the ITC would then recommend to the President one of the following remedies: trade adjustment assistance, tariff increases, quotas, or some combination of the above. The President would then have 60 days to make a decision.
