COUNCIL ENDORSES EPA AIR EMISSION TRADE-OFF POLICY

The Council on Wage and Price Stability today endorsed the Environmental Protection Agency’s rule which permits industrial firms to build or expand plants in areas where national air quality standards have not yet been attained, if that new pollution source can persuade an existing polluter to lower its emission levels.

In a filing before the EPA, the Council suggested several improvements which should be made in EPA’s ruling on air emission trade-offs. The filing was a response to the Agency’s request for comments on the ruling.
