Application of Eastern Airlines for Discussion Authority

On June 22, 1976, Eastern Air Lines (Eastern) petitioned the Board for authority to discuss, with other air carriers, “possible agreements intended to bring about more efficient methods relating to research, design and procurement of needed future commercial aircraft types …. ” Because of the magnitude of the issues involved, including serious anti-trust implications, the Board requested further comments and ordered that Eastern submit a more detailed petition supporting its request to hold joint discussions. Eastern submitted these additional comments on September 24, 1976. The Council on Wage and Price Stability (Council) filed comments in opposition to Eastern’s petition on October 9, 1976. The Board has now decided to hold oral argument on the above matter and has requested that each party submit a statement of position.
