Productivity and Prices in the United States Economy

The dismal productivity performance of the country’s private business sector in recent years has been well documented. In those same years, we have all been aware of an unprecedented growth in prices. There is little doubt that these phenomena are related.  The nature of the relationship is less clear, and, certainly, the proper degree and focus of public policies to remedy this situation is open to debate. These issues will be the basis of this paper.
